There was a day when
I ate too many churros
And my stomach felt heavy inside
It was raining when I walked home
My hands in my pockets
The dog crap in lumps on the sidewalk
I carefully avoided
While the construction men continued their banging
And then the day I biked downtown
Whizzing past people on the cobbled streets
"Mira, bici!"
or "Hola chinita!"
The irritation built up inside of me
Today the sun came out
But only briefly
I sang in the choir
and wore red like my sister
The people danced and waved their arms to Feliz Navidad
I sang and ran out to the water fountain
I was so thirsty
